Pop quiz: when the Met office wrote "this apparent lack of warming" their use of the word "apparent" meant:
a) apparent as the nose on your face, obvious, blatant, indisputable OR b) apparition, semblance, seeming, appearance, illusion Clue: "...intervals of 15 yr ... an observed absence of warming of this duration is needed to create a discrepancy with the expected present-day warming rate." By "an observed absence ... of this duration is needed to create a discrepancy" they meant: a) we see an absence that long and it creates a discrepancy, OR b) one would have to observe an absence that long before concluding a discrepancy existed ----- I'm done.
