Dear Mitch.
The Continental C-90 engine seems to be the best matching engine for our
Coupes and even Alons.
With it you will probably fly faster than with an O-200.
The O-200 conversion requires a few changes to your plane which set you
back money wise even further.
One is a new propeller, which can cost you an additional 2000 bucks.
You are best advised to either get your engine repaired at a reasonable
price or get another C-90 and
sell yours at a core. The Core is still worth something.
I know one C-90 for sale . Contact me if interested.

Well, guess this is the classic new owner nightmare. I just purchased
my 65 Alon in Dec, and thought I had a valid prebuy done. But now 4
months later and only about 10 hours of flying time I take it in for
annual....and get the big shocker! It's making metal, loads of bearing
material, and my A&P guesses it has been for some time.

The C-90 had about 1300hrs on it when I bought it I really thought I
would get a few good years of flying out of it before it had to be
over-hauled. Worst part is my A&P called the engine shop and looks like
the damage is in the neighborhoood of $11,500 to rebuild! OUCH!

Now I am looking at options, I know will have to plunk down a pile of
money, but wanted to see what I may do other than over-haul the current
engine. What about an 0-200? Any opinions on converting to an 0-200?
Pros? Cons?

Thanks in advance for your input.
