John:: The most important baffle to the cooling of the engine is the baffle that is most often overlooked! This is the1.5" wide strip seal that goes over the top of the engine on the solid vertical baffle that passes in front of the oil tank. This baffle should point forward (Toward the propeller) with the top cowl locked down. Sometimes when the top cowl is removed the rubber seal flops over and points rearward at the time of cowl closure. OK on the ground and during run-up, but in the air at 100 MPH enough pressure is present to allow the high pressure air to escape through to the accessory section of the engine enclosure rendering the cooling air through the cylinders inert and compromised. This would account for the high overheating at flying speeds. D.
