Please don't misinterpret what I'm saying... I'm all for going ahead and
registering GNHLUG as an organization. You have my vote. What I was
saying is that if someone *needs* to give us funds that are tax-exempt,
we may be able to use an entity like NHCF as the receiver of those funds
until we have attained our own 501(c)(3) status. That's all. We need
our own separate corporate entity and we need a separate unrestricted
bank account in any event.
That's what I was meaning about using NHCF... only that they could be an
option if we needed them. Odds are that people giving $5, $10 or $25
dollars here and there don't necessary care about the tax deduction. But
if we found someone who wanted to give a couple hundred or $1000 (I'm
not quite sure why they would, but perhaps to sponsor an event), they
would probably be *very* interested in the tax deduction.
