That's easy to say, but what would you suggest keying, say, procmail on in
order to filter out the jobs? Not as easy as it may seem. Look at the
title of this thread. You're certainly not going to use `Linux', and
`needed' is likely to show up in any desperate plea for help from a new
user... and `persons'? Frankly I don't think I've ever seen that in a
message header EVER! : )
So your filter would either have NOT caught this message, or you'll likely
be dumping lots of `signal' messages into the circular file...
You also might suggest `job' as your key, but there are numerous examples
of titles that might show up that include that also, such as:
Need Help with cron job
What's this batch job do?
etc etc.
And as you can see from the title of this message, the obvious `job
opening' would not have caught this thread. There just isn't a good way
to filter out job opening posts.
Add in my previous argument, which was that once you start allowing _ANY_
jobs to be posted, you're likely to start seeing a whole bunch more. Many
headhunter types watch lists like these because they know there's a pool
of candidates on them... once you make it acceptable to post job openings,
they'll see that it's open season and inundate you with all kinds of
messages about stuff no one cares about.
Maybe that's a really pessimistic view, but I don't think it's that far
off. I'm already pestered regularly by headhunters, and I don't want that
to happen here too. I'm all for having a place to put those opening
announcements, but I really don't think that the list proper is the right
place.
However, if the majority of people want jobs here, I'll shut up. I just
think it's a BAD idea...

No offense Lori! :)
