Well, I don't know about any other format, but someone mentioned 
yesterday that the RealPlayer server cost about $9K.  I don't know if 
that's true or accurate, but it surely costs more than free, which is 
what MS is giving their server away for.

And with the announcement of "The Demise of the Linux Desktop" 
yesterday on /. it's going to be sometime before the Linux market is 
strong enough to place a demand on people to consider spending money 
on software when they don't have to.

Of course if every Linux user called their local NPR affiliate and 
told them something like "I'll make a donation of $XX if you switch 
back to RealPlayer", maybe they'll see that by going with the *free* 
alternative from MS is actually *costing* them in donations :)
