  Hmmm.  I have a "WinBook XL2" running Linux.  It gets rather warm, and the
fans never seem to run (after POST), but I always figured it was just
designed to run warm.  It never occurred to me that it might be *Linux*
causing the problem.  There is no MS-Windows on this system, so I cannot
test that.  (I never thought I'd *want* to run MS-Windows on the thing.)

  Try switching between APM, ACPI, and nothing-at-all in Linux.  One might
work when the others do not.

  ACPI, in theory, lets you control things like fans.  I remember looking
for ACPI fan-related stuff for Linux about four months ago, but only turned
up things in the planning stages.  Perhaps something more developed is
available now?
