I just installed Redhat 7.1 on an old Toshiba Tecra 8000 that I had
lying around. I did the 'laptop' install, and my fan seems to kick in
'regularly' without a problem, so either this laptop uses a hardware
system to regulate heat, or linux is telling it to cool down... Any idea
how I can check for you all?

Also, on a related note, my damn screen keeps on going black in gnome. I
have tried 'xset s off' and 'xset noblank' to no avail'. man xset did
not seem to help beyond the previous settings. The power saving screen
saver is turned off in settings->desktop->screensavers. I have also
checked the bios, but there is nothing in there that relates to screen
blanking. With Winblows I could set it so the screen did not blank.
Any ideas?
