  At the same time, if some very-low-level method of controlling the fans is
present, it should still work.  For example, if there is some kind of
embedded controller that turns the fans on regardless, once the system hits
a certain temperature, it should work.  Since you do not want the hardware
turning into slag due to a software bug, that would be the "right" way to do
things.  Which means it is likely nobody does it that way... :-/
