I don't care much about independant verification, I'm more concerned
about the veracity of the story and hearing both sides.
Unfortunately, once a story like this "hits" other media outlets pick
it up and run with it without checking the details, assuming that the
original source has already done that. NPR has been
guilty of this in the past, as has every other media source.
(though to NPR's credit, they usually do attempt to do some fact
checking before they run with someone elses story).
