Jeffry,

Like all stories there are two sides.

The owner of the restaurant does not deny that he asked the lady to leave
because she repeatedly showed up and drank only ONE pepsi the whole night.
She does not deny that she often drank only one pepsi the whole night.
She says he should serve something less than a 20 oz pepsi, and give lots
more ice so people buy more pepsis. I happen to like the size of his 20 oz
pepsi, and the fact that he does not load it down with ice.

The owner (in another article) explains that he has a small establishment,
seating 50 people in the karoke area, and that she was taking up a place that
could have seated someone else who spent more. He wanted her to buy some
food, or another pepsi, or something, not necessarily a drink. In light of
what happened, he is now considering charging a cover fee (as a lot of places
do) to pay for the karoke music. I am sure that this will upset a lot of his
patrons who are used to hearing "free" karoke music.

Things get dicey when you offer something "free" at a place that expects you
to purchase food or drink to pay for the entertainment. I recently went to
a dinner theatre. The play was "free", but they expected you to buy dinner
and drinks to pay for it. Imagine if I had brought a "designated driver" to
that theatre, they had ordered a pepsi, and insisted on paying for only that.
I think they would have found themselves removed from the theatre also,
designated driver or not.

I have been to the Grand Buffet many times and never had a single alcoholic
drink (gasps from the audience). But I pay my $14.00 and have a great meal.
The owner has never approached me and threatened to throw me out even
when I went back for thirds (additional gasps from the audience).

One more thing. I have read in more than one account of this that "the owner
spoke in broken english"..."the owner, speaking in broken english"...etc.
Somehow I wonder if the owner's native language was english and he had
expressed himself more fluently and forcefully, he might have presented
his side a little more clearly, and gained a bit more understanding.

I disagree. You ARE welcome there, assuming you buy your dinner. You are just
not welcome to go there and camp out week after week in the karoke bar drinking
one pepsi the whole night (unless the owner instigates a cover charge).

Since you are not going to make the meeting anyway, we can talk to the owner
and get you a full report before the next meeting.
