I didn't get anything on the 24th, but the one previous to that is what
I replied to before this one.
I'll try again with screen shots.
As I said at the very beginning of this sequence, I had a crash of
GNUCash I don't know why but ever since I have had issues trying to
download and reinstall it, nothing else.
I'll try again with illustrations and suspend Avast. Could you resend
the 24/12 message.
Thanks, Barry

I replied on 12/24 with very detailed instructions on how to directly
download GnuCash.
I'm not sure what it is you are doing, or seeing. (screenshots, as
attachments - not in-line, would be helpful)
Show us the exact error or warning messages.
Unblocking a downloaded file will *not* (as far as I'm aware) produce
some other file, or rename your download. It will simply no longer
prevent you from executing the installer *if Windows is blocking it*.
Since you now mention Avast, others on the list have reported that
this Anti-Virus is throwing false-positive threat identifications and
at least in some cases, is quarantining the download. You'll need to
figure out how to tell Avast the download is safe and otherwise remove
it from quarantine. Then click to install.
Again, screenshots will help us figure out exactly what you are
dealing with and then we can provide better suggestions.
Cheers, & Happy New Year as well—hope you get it sorted out!
Regards,
Adrien

I got this response from you on Dec 23, but nothing since.
Trying to download again from the same source today I didn't get the
message about insufficient permissions but when I tried to install it
I got a message from MS saying they could not proceed and straight
away a message from the Avast app to say they had found an issue, but
on researching in Avast I didn't find it.....????
Your advice [/The solution is to right-click the downloaded file,
choose 'Properties' and then check the 'unblock' box near the bottom
and close the Properties dialog.]/ produced a file called
download.htm and then nothing
Any further advice? and a happy new year!!
