Given that the location of the data file is chosen *by the user*, I'm not sure why it should be a GnuCash problem to provide this information. Indeed, I'm not sure whether there are many apps at all that provide that info.
I mean, I can't count how many times over the years I have heard someone suggest File->Save As to figure out where a file has been stored. If you want to code it and submit it, by all means do so.
