Education Corporation for Goa??
Joe Vaz writes: Won't you agree that those who are right now on the "ground" have the "right" to speak their minds about what's good or bad for them? After all, it's the Goan public who is affected, and specifically those who have to put their kids through this "tangled" education system. Response: As usual you are cent per cent correct. You not only have a right to speak, you have a duty to speak. And so do others be they residents of Goa or not. When individuals have and share their constructive thoughts; we can all learn from each other and see progress. Your grandson in Goa today could be my grandson-in-law in Emerica. And vice-versa! OK. so I am thinking 25 years ahead. =:))! -------- JV: This is not about knowing the views of the 'principled' Principals of Goa Schools, but more so about knowing the motives of some 'unprincipled' politicians, who want to push their own political agenda. Response: Are you making the case for changing the current "tangled" system? Are you saying we should move away from the Government and the politicians and the paper-pushing bureaucrats? I knew we were agreeing more than disagreeing! ---------------- JV: In the past there have been protests from the Goan public, school Principals, educators, teachers, parents and students alike, regarding the education system. Unfortunately, what prevailed was some politicians' self-serving expediency rather than the principles of democracy. Finally, all Govt funded schools had to toe-the-line, given no choice, for want of Govt grants; so by and large the education system succumbed to the whims of a few conniving creatures. This "unforgiving" system of education thrust upon the Goan people is going to affect the new generation. It is a serious matter and must be accorded the attention it deserves. The basis on which the educational foundation rests will invariably determine the future of our children. If this new generation has to compete with the best and brightest on a world platform, then the education system must be so geared to give the Goan kids an equal footing as with the rest, in an increasingly competitive world. Response: Now we have to trust someone to be professional and do their occupation since not all can do everybody's job. But you make the case once again very strongly, that the current system needs to be drastically changed. And Goa needs to overhaul the current system; and perhaps..... just perhaps the "Education Corporation" for Goa may be the vehicle for that transformation. If not, let some individual /group place on the Goanet or in a public forum a better plan of action instead of just sloganeering. My point is that instead of just criticizing the current system or the proposed change to the present system, why not individuals take the lead to work and put into practice with the system; and work with each other outside the system? Perhaps, you, Miguel, Helga, Averthanus and others, justifiably unhappy with the current system, can motivate and encourage the students on hands-on and minds-on education projects outside the class room? If you motivated individuals cannot do it, the government will not succeed either.
