Dear Albert,

You must realise that priests [some, ofcourse] are more 'politicians' than chest banging, knees bleeding, other cheek offering, pandas. As far as the Colva issue is concerned, I am not indicting any one as I do not know the case history at all. But it smacks of an engineering of a crookish master-mind. One thing I know is that a priest should not incite his parishioners. What is happening to Culvert Gonsalves happened to me some time ago when I wrote to the Parish Priest (with a copy to the Archbishop) that his sacristan had lost control over the tolling of the morning 6 O'Clock Church bells by giving him the average tolls for the entire week - Monday thro Sunday, which was around 60 tolls, whereas in all fairness the figure should be average between 10 to 15. Short of disclosing my name it is believed that he said this during his Sunday sermon - Poile funelamcher complainam cortale punn atam amcheam gantacher chodleat. Amim atam gantoch vazoumcheo bond kelear boreo. [Previously they were complaining against funnel/horn speakers. Now they are complaining against our Church bells. It is better that we stop using our bells altogether] And all this was said, it is believed, while waving my letter. And he didn't have to announce the name of the writer as everyone knew who it was being the father of anti-loud music noise pollution campaign. If this will not antagonize the entire community I don't know what will. I immediately set the record straight ( after getting a few nasty calls) by confronting the parish priest in the manner that he never even dreamt of it. I am proud to say that today, our church bells do not exceed 20 at the worst of times at 6 O'Clock in the morning.

Cheers

Subject: [Goanet] Talibanisation of colva

Albert writes:- Regarding the riot in Colva I am not siding any one. Those who were against the CD it would be the right thing to approach the Court and file a case against the Colva Sarpanch or the producer of the contriversial CD. Giving vent to your feelings by burning and destroying is neither democratical nor Christian. If Lord Jesus could hang on the cross for our sins, accept rebukes from people around whom he had done such a lot, and then say " Father forgive them for they know not... why can this same yardstick be used here ? The court would have given an impartial judgement and punish the guilty. Are we the Judges ?
