Dear John,

Thank you for your message. I am afraid that what you have read and
heard on the news is absolutely untrue: we did not fire Brendan Eich.
Sadly, the press coverage on this whole story has been very light on
fact checking.

Brendan Eich has been the object of external pressures largely
orchestrated by the company OKCupid. Since the nomination of Brendan, a
boycott of Firefox has been organized, a petition demanding his
resignation, and while most Mozillians – including the Board of
Directors – were supporting Brendan, at least one has received serious
death threats for doing so.

Brendan finally decided to step down as CEO because he considered the
controversy around his political views as dangerous for Mozilla. We were
all saddened by the news, but we will keep fighting for privacy and free
speech, and you should note that Brendan is still part of the Mozilla
project.

Right now, we need all the help we can get. In particular, If you
consider privacy and free speech important, we need your help to get the
word out and get the public to understand what really happened.

If you have any question, we will be happy to answer them.

Best regards,
 David
