Thanks for providing the extra information. I don't have much more to say
as I'm not well informed on the relationships these companies have with
their governments or their business practices. I am not so naive, just
speaking broadly. I do think though that this problem isn't limited to
China and Russia. If we were to be extremely ideal and never take money
from companies that provide information to governments in a way that is
harmful to the people affected, then we wouldn't be able to partner with
any search engines.

Mozilla isn't a 100% idealistic movement. We don't want to just imagine the
perfect web, we want to build it. That means being practical as well. We
will struggle with where the line between practical and idealistic should
lie. There are some areas where I think Mozilla is not being idealistic
enough myself. I would say that there is a difference between imperfect
solutions and bad ones. Imperfect solutions should be ok and not considered
hypocritical so long as we still recognize the solution as imperfect and
try to improve it when we can. That said, it's really important that people
like you raise these issues in a respectful and informative way.
