We are presently investigating possible migration options from MD2.

On our short list:
* MD3/pracsoft has the advantage of familiarity - which users seem to want to gravitate towards * Genie when we last asked a couple of months ago couldn't import medication lists from MD; users are a bit scared of the quirky interface * Best Practice has long term risks associated with longevity in the market
* others have failed to impress

It's looking more like the devil you know versus the devil you don't and the dollars weigh heavily in some minds and advertising seems not a concern to others.

What I would like is:
* stories from switchers - good or bad
* cost justification of alternatives to MD - preferably quantifiable productivity gains

Any help greatly appreciated.....

Hi Ian

Had this chat more than once. My last reply at

is pretty much unchanged as to why I would choose BP over MD. I note your comments about BP's concerns over longevity in the market. I would have thought Frank Pyefinch's longevity in the market, could be used as an argument for BP. The short answer is is if you accept MD3/pracsoft as your option you accept the issues associated with advertising, a hybrid database that prevents live updates and whatever issues surround the amalgamation of separate databases into one. The comment I have heard is that whilst they are using shared databases, they are still using separate tables within that structure - so there are still internal linking mechanisms needed between PS and MD.
For me BP has been a cheap option compared to MD

   * no need to purchase MS SQL
   * upgrades take minutes, not hours
   * backups can be done live (reliably)
   * BP will run on old machines (P2 400) although I doubt that doctors
would be happy with the speed achieved.
   * Data conversion was painless and complete

The downsides of BP are that I have not yet seen its practice management program, MA Online will not be part of its initial release, BP doesn't yet have upload/download funtonality or ability to email from its letter writer although I understand these are nearly ready for release. In the meantime, BP and PS2 function adequately together, albeit with the limitations imposed by PS2.

I think you can do better than MD3. I believe I did.

Gary
