Of course to end users finding someone to work out what should be not null seems more difficult than continually haranguing the guys who made the software. Admittedly the latter is often not an effective strategy but it is something everybody know hows to do. (Please note that here I am specifically not referring to Argus, who are to be warmly congratulated and fervently supported, but to closed source proprietary products.) However, when we are talking about software that is of national importance ensuring that there is access to the source code seems like the only responsible thing for the nation to do.
