Yes, you have to hold only the original signing copy, or a scan of it, or let Medicare hold it for you, for two years for auditing purposes by them.

The whole issue is who pays for the paper and ink?

If people do manual bulk-billing, they get a nice swipe-card device, and bundles of three-part carbonised paper. They also get the same Medicare rebate whether they do this or make Coles-Myer a bit richer instead.

One of the reluctances to moving to Online Claiming has been this cost-shift.

By the way, Fee, I thought every practice had a swipe-card machine and carbonised forms as back-up for when the system or a printer was down, or for doing home and NH visits?
