The redeployment of stereotypes can happen in and through serious
criticism of earlier deployments and feminists have indeed done that. I
don't think I have objected to your observations about binaries or
sterotypes. I disagreed on two things, though -- I don't think that
criticising binaries is an outmoded political move, and I was not in any
way implying that such criticism is sufficient in itself for serious
political work; further, I also disgree with your repeated implication
that moderation is either censorship or 'running to mama'. I do think
democratically oriented moderation is better than calling in the state,
anyway. The reference to sardarji jokes and the response of sikh (men)
to these was quite inappropriate, to my mind.

Again, i don't think I was cocking a snook at theory -- I just said we
need a 'we' and not theoretical correctness alone!

Warmly
Devika
