While that works, it is not a good solution. If all you are doing is setting a
single piece, then perhaps it is OK. In my case I have done numerous chants and
produced a booklet with the chants of the commons for the ordinary form of the
Mass, plus parts from the common Masses, I, VIII, XVIII. It would rive me nuts
to have to manipulate the files by hand like that. When you have numerous
chants and have to make such manual adjustments, it is easy to forget to and
make mistakes.
My gregorio setup works correctly with versicles and responses. So the thing to
do, if you want to, is figure out why yours does not.
