I see no reason to put this in the hands of the app developers. This
is something that should be up to you, the user.
BTW, have you tried some of the other displays? Maybe what you really
need is a more visible one, such as AboveTheNight.
At any rate, I've added an entry in our bug-report database for this
request:

If you have coding skills, or if you don't and someone else who does
decides they want it, too, then you/they can submit a patch to add
this feature.
