This would make this ratio lower than stock GTS, if your calculations are
correct. Anytime you turn more RPM to achieve the same speed, it is lower
gearing. Think of running 20 mph in first then 20 MPH in second. You turn
more RPM to achieve the same speed in the LOWER gear. As far as the racing
tranny being built for the privateer how can not afford to replace a tranny
every second race, is not a design criteria. Durability may well be increased
in the area of jumping out of gear, which is dependant on the dogs and not
the gear widths. It is indesputable that a narrower gear has greater
pressure, as in PSI, than a wider gear. The difference between 17-40 and
17-43 is rounded to 7.6%, which at 5000 will yeild a 380 RPM drop for the
same speed with the higher gearing.
