Greetings Randy
In Virginia your yearly inspection sticker has to be visible. That is it
must be on the left side of the motorcycle. In a car it has to be generally
in the lowest center of the windshield, per state law. It has to be attached
to the vehicle which cannot be easily removed on motorcycles. Such as the
front forks. Lately a lot of people have been placing them on metal plates.
This is a gray area. However if this is attached that you can show that it
would take a lot of disassembly must officers will not question it. Been
there done that. The main thing is that it's location allows an officer to
see it without having to look for it. Also that it can be seen and read by
an officer in traffic from their patrol car.
As for your local jurisdiction property tax sticker it has to be visible
as above. Per most local laws to the right next to the inspection sticker on
car windshields. In most cases this sticker is usually not looked at except
for local jurisdiction police. However if you go through a road check both
should be in a place whereas the officer does not have to ask you where it
is. They should be able to see it to make a determination that it is valid.
On the GTS I have one on the front shock housing and the other on the
left side of the rear swing arm. My philosophy is I don't get upset that it
will look bad or interfere with a piece of custom chrome. I do have a
Harley. I figure that if they can see it from their car then they don't need
to waste their time and mine because it is hidden. I would rather let them
spend more time going after more serious crimes than having to hassle over a
sticker. If in another state it's visibility will show them that you are not
from there and then they do not have to go after you because they think you
are a local not complying with their laws.
Feel free to contact me directly to my email address we might be able to
ride together or know mutual friends. It's nice to know that another
Virginian has a GTS.
