I mostly agree with Henry on this one, and tell students that:
a) it's illegal to fail to dim lights for oncoming cars or cars you are
following, day or night.
b) you in fact CAN get a ticket for it.
c) it's still worth using brights in daytime, WITH A DOSE OF COMMON SENSE
AND COURTESY.
Let's face it, a lot of cagers already don't like us. Blinding people is
right up there with loud pipes, it just makes people mad. At night,
you're not really any more visible with brights than with dims, so there's
no real advantage. And in traffic, sitting behind someone in say a Miata
(right Jay, and my SO has one too so she can also attest) it really gets
"in their face" so to speak. We can afford to be nice out there.
Being seen = A Good Thing.
Pissing off others about motorcyclists = A Bad Thing.
