Actually, I used to work for this dealer, and most of the people who work there now are personal friends of mine. True, I never personally spoke to Yamaha, but I definitely trust that my dealer wasn't trying to pull something.
I've dealt with many warranty-type situations, both professionally and as a consumer, on products that either failed or that I was dissatisfied with. In my experience, it's only rarely that a manufacturer will eagerly and quickly resolve such problems. The GTS is a fabulous bike, but I'm sure it was somewhat of an albatross for Yamaha. They can't have made money on this model, and any ongoing quality or safety issues just cause them further cost and heartache. I do trust Yamaha to stand by their products, but I also expect some reluctance on their part.
I merely suggest that any GTS owner confronting their dealer, and Yamaha, with a warranty issue be prepared for this eventuality.
