I have a '93 and mine has never surged. It hesitates sometimes accelerating
from a closed throttle but never surges. When I bought my bike the previous
owner mentioned something about some part of the electronics being changed
out already to improve the bikes running. I wasn't listening too closely at
the time but I think I know what he was talking about now. I just checked my
ECU. It has a label on it with the part number listed as 4HH-8591A-00. I
notice that the microfiche parts catalog (which I'm pretty sure is based on
the 1993 model) lists the number as 4BH-8591A-00. Also on
Buymotocycleparts.com the 4BH number is not listed but the 4HH one is. My
guess is that the 4HH is an upgrade from the 4BH. Not sure if it was
standard on the '94s or not. Anyone with a '94 care to check their ECU
number?

BTW I'm at 5,700 ft and regularly get up to 11,000 ft without any problems.

Cheers Joe.

Can anyone confirm if Yamaha changed the ECU part number between 1993 and
1996? Chances are that they didn't but I thought I would ask. The 1993 ECU
part number is 4BH-8591A-00-00.
