So we should take a page from the most experienced story tellers, bench racers, beer drinking, cigar smoking hard core endurance riding and talking riders there are. And they are all mostly a bunch of old farts like the majority of us.
Every year the IBA group gets together in Gerlach at a little dump called Bruno's County Club which is the only place in a little patch called the Black Rock desert about 77 miles North of Reno. We book out the entire hotel, which is horseshoe shaped with two long wings. The organizers drive in cages with ice chests full of beer, coke and water and everyone hangs out between the two wings where all the bikes are parked, jaws flapping all day and little contests in here and there. Book a banquet room at Bruno's Bistro. Dues prepaid (only $45) which covers the banquet and daytime refreshments. Although Bruno's is really a dive and there are no hot tubs, not even a pool, and it is really in the middle of no where (but that lets us do some interesting things), my suggestion is to find a nicer, smaller hotel (small town or outskirts) with a restaurant nearby or next too that would agree to book out the entire hotel or two wings for that weekend. If we get 30-50 person commitment that can be good leverage. This way you have the comforts of home and still the all together camaraderie. And the area Joe is talking should have several prospects. -- Dave Biasotti // Fremont, CA Date: Thu, 10 Oct 2002 11:22:44 -0400 From: "Loss, Joe" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: North American GTS Rally 2003 Mike, I don't think everyone will want to bring tents and camping gear and so if it was to be a campground I think it would need to have some fully equipped cabins. It wouldn't be that cheap but I'll look at the options. If we stay in a hotel in somewhere like Frisco we can probably walk from the hotel to a nice big Brew Pub and socialize, brag and tell lies well into the night there. Thor, The idea is to stay somewhere central like Frisco/Leadville so that we could do the Aspen, Hotchkiss, Black Canyon, Buena Vista ride one day and the Mt Evans, Estes Park ride the next. Staying in Golden is not a good idea if we want to easily access the best of Colorado. Apart from that I think it would be a lot nicer staying in the mountains rather than near a busy interstate in the city. Unfortunately, that also makes a BBQ at your place a little difficult to fit in to the schedule. Maybe we could do a lunch stop BBQ there on our second day ride. Have to go easy on the beers though... My concern is that hotels do not offer biker friendly gathering places to drink beer and tell lies well into the night. I go to these things for the social interaction and I'm afraid if we all pile into a local Motel 6, we won't have an environment conducive to social interaction. IMHO, of course. Mike
