Well, like I said... I haven't even opened the side cover yet to determine the extent
of the damage.... perhaps this weekend. Even though she's got 194 grand, the
engine was rebuilt less than 50,000 mi ago..... I do know that when I push her,
there's an ugly grinding sound as the chain turns the sprocket.... Oh, and believe
me, I know all about 'hard-to-get' parts.... seems most of these parts are put on a
slow boat from Japan headed westward.....

Actually thinking of buying a third bike just for parts... too much invested in the
two I got to give up now.....
Yeah, it's a dangerous cycle ;-)

Hey! Countershaft stripping! That's the same thing
that happened to me but in only 4000 miles... Really
look hard at saving the output shaft--the whole motor
must be disassembled to replace it :>( The mechanic
that started the job said the nut was tight--just a
weak sprocket or something. Started a whole bunch of
horrible events that only RSRBOB saved me from--Thanks
again. Make sure you have a good shop do the
work--order parts in advance if you can, some will be
hard to get in time to rebuild while the disassembly
  is fresh in their minds...
