You can 'pin' notifications; when you hoover over a notification, a 'pin' (and a 'check') button appear where the time is. The pinned notifications stay on the 'Unread' page. The 'check' button unpins them.
It's not perfect though, and they seem to be experimenting with the feature. Because I think you now don't get new notifications for threads you have already pinned (so you'd need those emails again).
