Hello Batman,

there are sensor rules in Spaceships 5, too, but they have a
different focus. The Spaceships series is modular -- do you
mean all volumes?

And there was an update of the PDF and a second printing of
the softcover, so which edition do you use? I don't _think_
that will matter, but there must have been some changes.

The way I understand p. 45, this refers to passive detection only,
and "signature modifier" seems to refer to IR signature modifiers
only, since other mods are the _size_ or background modifiers etc.

Stealth can protect against IR detection only if
- the ship is on minimal or auxiliary power, or if all the power
points come from solar panels or fuel cells,
- and it uses no reaction engines other than a chemical or HEDM
rocket facing away or "sideways" relative to the sensor, or a
nuclear thermal rocket facing away from the sensor.

So a fission-powered ship, or one with a fusion rocket, would
have to power down and stop maneuvering to get the benefit of
stealth on passive detection.

Stealth protects fully against active sensors.

Regards,
Onno
