Hello Brandon,

imagine a situation where there are a few dozen TL9 dropships,
capable of landing anywhere on Earth unless the LZ is covered
by multiple heavy tanks in ambush positions. Regarding Mike's
remark on arrows vs. assault rifles, all other things being
equal the smart money would be on the troops with the rifles.

If each dropship carries one TL6 tank, or a motorized rifle
platoon, or a towed howitzer, the force could probably take
any one building or city block on Earth, but it could not
reinforce the LZ under fire. Still, imagine a situation
where a reinforced tank company gets delivered behind enemy
lines every six to twelve hours ... the first companies may
be little more than kamikazes, but sooner or later the rear
area will break down in confusion, and then the raiders can
run wild.

Do the Martians still use them, or are they in conveniently ruined
temples scattered about the landscape?

Lay tracks through the gate, and you have a single rail line. Not
enough for a major theater, but look at war in Siberia or Burma.
Especially if the rail goes double on either side of the gate.
