Hello Roger,

if it is need rather than convenience to recycle the dead, that
means a hundred lbs. or so of biomass are critical for the life
support systems. Sure, the population of a big station can add 
up to hundreds or thousands of tons, but that has to be seen in
relation to the station size.

Imagine a guy saves two ounces of biomass every month. Perhaps 
an orange, or a candy bar. Over a lifetime, that adds up to the
mass of the corpse. There are settings where it is impossible 
to save that much, but Bujold's setting or an average GURPS 3E
TL10 with FTL drives should have more biomass imports.
