FYI - Suspend spell has the same problem that ward does. You need to know the 
spell you are suspending.
 
The PC solved the problem with out using dispell magic.

Nah, you can just cast at penalties for being distracted. But yes, 
unless you use suspend spell, dispel magic not very useful in combat.
