Shipboard Marines will have training in things like damage control, but fire control is better left to specialists. > To provide security for the captain be it to keep the crew in line, to > repeal boarders and to provide protection for shore parties. More generalized, as a police force on the ship. But that doesn't call for battlesuits. I'm uncertain about fighting boarders. Can you reasonably try to board a ship which hasn't surrendered, or is that impossible? It might make sense to give the boarding party battlesuits in case of second thoughts. If the ship docks with a station, there are countless ways for mischief near the docking hatch. > 3rd Lieutenant a rank much like the current Warrant Officer, to give the > often contracted civilian purser a rank so if captured, they was treated > like an officer and not like a lowly enlisted person. The Royal Navy used to number their lieutenants, from 1st to whatever -- 4th Lieutenant, 5th Lieutenant. A 5th Lieutenant would be the 6th-ranking officer of a battalion-sized ship of the line.
