I have two drafts for the TL10 battlesuit transport. Both can carry 15 one-ton suits at 600 mph.
One has two ducted fans with vectored thrust, each in a pod. It would look a bit like the helicopters from Avatar. On the plus side, this allows a large fan diameter and slow-turning fans, and it keeps the fans away from the ground. The battlesuits can leave through side doors. http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1416531456/tt0499549 The problem is damage resistance. If one fan is disabled, the unbalanced thrust will cause a wild spin. The other has eight ducted fans, all within the body. How fast has the air to go through those little nozzles? The benefit is some redundancy. As far as images go, I prefer the first design. Game mechanics go for the second -- it can afford DR 300 instead of just DR 240.
