There are times when I lose speech but I don't have any good steps to reproduce the problem. I can however do CONTROL-SHIFT-ESCAPE then ALT-E to end task and speech will usually come back.
When I have this problem I usually have Internet Explorer and Winamp running. Sometimes I am loading a station that I have bookmarked and sometimes I am just alt tabbing from Winamp to IE.
