Quite right. Someone with some sense!! And a dealer at that!! I'm
impressed!! Like I said, mainstream is best. It always will be.

Robert,

But the big down side of these specialist devices is the price. Look at
the price of a Netbook and then compare it to a Braille Sense. Yes you
have the internal Braille device, but not the full power of Windows,
just some functions that they have chosen to add. Look at the third
party programs you could run on a Netbook as opposed to a specialist
device.

Finally, you say you have to add the screen reader, which is right, but
even including Window-Eyes on a Netbook, it is only a third the price of
a Braille Sense if that.

All the best

Steve

What is mainstream about a device loaded with a screen reader? Can
a
blind person buy a netbook off the shelf and use it as is?

I've seen them and while they are definitely smaller and lighter,
when
one uses braille, there are the note takers. And I am waiting ti find
out
if I can get one soon.

Sure its wonderful to be able to adapt off the shelf products for
our
use. But nothing beats having a device made for a blind person.
