Hi:
This has been coming for some time in my opinion.
The changes to the accessibility technicals that have occurred over the past 4
or 5 years has been nothing short of astronomical.
The implementation of UIA replacing MSAA and of html5, new CSS and other
"voluntary" standards would, in my opinion, require some massive programming
efforts and a huge learning curve for many accessibility pros.
I don’t have a crystal ball to know when, or if, these changes will become
familiar and comfortable for accessibility programmers to work with but I
believe it would take some time indeed.
We are talking some rather fundemental changes outside of legacy accessibility
hooks for them to implement in their existing code base.
If WE continues I would expect a long duration while newer technicals are
folded into practice and to just tweak existing code to make things temporarly
better are a waste of valuable time and money while rushing to get everything
analyzed, planned and then programmed and tested for the next 10 year timeframe.
In the meantime I would expect not much from the company since the analysis and
planning is not something they would, nobody does, share with clients.
If WE survives this huge transformation I expect the programmers I have come to
respect over the years to be up to the challenge - although they may be driving
the cost of Tylonal and asprin up a little while putting it all together in
some type of comprehensible, structured plan.
It may be too much due to the smaller client base, greenies, for the company to
view as acceptible investment - I just don’t know and my crystal ball is pretty
cloudy these days.
I have found Doug, Aaron and the others to be some of the best, most reputable
and helpful professionals around this industry.
Whatever happens downline we all should support them since they have earned our
loyalty over many years.
I have plenty of issues with WE as it now stands but if making it work can be
done I believe they can, and if allowed, will get the job done.
That’s all I have but wanted to post this so the guys at WE know that whatever
happens I appreciate how well they have treated us over the years and that I
look forward to working with them for many more years.

Subject: the silence is deafening

Well, hello list, since this is such a hot topic of intrest, I'm going to throw
my 2 sence in.
I don't think that window-eyes has gone down the tube as it were. If it did,
trust me, it would be all over the AT news, and I think gw micro (AIsquared),
would have announced it. As far as development goes, it is actually good that
AISquared, is not under Strengent timelines to develop, as it allows them to
make sure that there product is the best it could be.What is interesting
though, is what was mensioned about windows 10 and narrator, being better than
window-eyes or NVDA for that matter? Well, I have tested the technical preview,
and if they are going to make narrator better than Window-eyes or NVDA, they'd
better get a move on, and fast.
Since there is still talks of a window-eyes 9, I would presume it is still
being actively developed. And if AI wanted to hand-off the development to
microsoft, do you think that would have not been announced? Seriously, I
understand the conserns, as I too am wondering about the development, but to
presume that eh product had died, is kind of silly, since Mr. Clower still
posts to this list, and if he didn't have his job, I don't think he would still
be known as a technical support specialist. All your souls be still, because I
am quite sure that a window-eyes 9 will definetly be released. I do not know
when, or how long it is until the date, but rest and be pacient, it is coming!
