I have consulted with John Farina, an assistive tech consultant, and we have
downloaded the upgrade. It does not seem to have corrected the problems
that I was experiencing with the unit. John will be calling you on Monday
to discuss further steps.
Incidentally, the information file in the BrailleSense unit does not seem to
have been updated after the upgrade. It is still saying that the version is
5.22 and the build date has also not changed. The Help file has changed to
reflect the upgrade, however.
John will have the unit with him when he calls.

Hello Ann. I'm not sure what firmware 5.22 build date 20090525 is,
however it was never an official firmware we released. I suspect that if
you can upgrade to version 5.5 which has a build date of 20100630, we
can go from there.

I think I do know the difference between computer braille and literary
braille, contracted or uncontracted, and I have been using computer
braille to name my files, very simply, so far, such as t-e-s-t-dots
4,6-brl or brf, as suggested by members of this list, or without the
file type suffix.

The only
remedy might be a reinitialization - Reset with the NEXT TRACK button

right arrow on the front of the unit).

Yes, I typed the letters t e s t, then dots 4-6, then brl or brf. If

ENTER then, I get the message that says "format not supported." If I

"tab", I get the clashing cymbals and the device locks up and I need to
press the reset button to get any response.
I'm using version 5.22. I think the device was shipped to the school
district last September or so. The previous TVI took it home to learn
how
to operate it, and she never brought it back to school so that the
student
could use it, or at least, that is what I have been told.

I have a Braille Sense Plus still running version 5.21 (I haven't

to the new firmware yet). What version of the firmware do you have on
your BSP? There should be a file in the list of files in the file

named bs-information.txt and it will give you the version number of the
firmware on y our BSP. let us know.
I went into the word processor and typed a line of text. Then I did
CTRL-S and it prompted me for the filename. I typed test.brf and it
was
saved and placed in the My Documents folder. It contained a line of
Grade
2 Braille. I went back into the word processor and typed a line of
computer braille and gave the CTRL-S command and the filename test1.brf
and it was saved as such.
It is important to use only computer braille when typing the name of a
file plus extension, even if you have set VIEW gRADE to Grade 2
Braille in
t he Options menu. In other words, test.brf is an acceptable filename,
but test4brf is not acceptable.
I didn't have to u se the F3 for the extension.
Have you tried to do it the way I ahve described above?

Just tried it here to be sure.
Bring up the save as dialog box with space s. Give it a couple
seconds
for the current filename to appear.
Next if you want a new filename start typing. The old one will
disappear
once you start typing.
Once you have typed the filename, no extension needed, press the tab
key
(f3) and you should be in the file type box. The default file type
will
be shown. Press space until the file type you want shows or is
spoken.
Finally press the tab key one more time and you should be on a
confirm
button. Press enter there and your document will be saved in the
format
you choose.
If this doesn't work as described, try a reset of the braillesense
and
then do it again.
This should work with either the voice sense or braille sense. I
can't
recall which you said you are using.
