The detection is much more reliable as it is based on an IP database (search CPAN for Geo::IP for more information). As for false positives, we have much more of these in the current method of redirecting everybody to the newcomers page. This should be done in addition to making two versions of the newcomers page (in English and Hebrew), perhaps making the English version shorter with only links to the lecture slides, the club's site and to previous run of the series.
