I think that we did discuss this problem since the beginning of
HanoiLUG. I don't think that it's a good idea to add new mailings
lists for HanoiLUG.
In fact, adding new mailing-list doesn't change anything, except giving
more choices! ;-)
It's the rules I did propose, especially for this list to become
Vietnamese only, that could change something…
Let any HanoiLUG member explain their idea or make question in his
(her) prefered language (vietnamese or english) in an unified
malinglist. It's not good to dinstinguish an english-HanoiLUG member
to a (vietnamese-default) HanoiLUG one. I believe that JC has a good
intention, but I'm afraid that it incites to the separation, ...
It's somewhat funny to realise how people can't understand the fact that
the HanoiLUG subscribers have *always* been
isolated/distinguished/separated/whatever by their language abilities!
There are subscribers who *can't understand* Vietnamese language, but
are still interested in HanoiLUG's activities, and are “annoyed” by the
Vietnamese language traffic that they can't read anyway.
There are people, who *don't even want* to subscribe because there is
too much posts in Vietnamese language that they will just delete everyday.
And how about Vietnamese people who can't understand English and/or
French? Sure they should learn and understand both of them perfectly
but… I think you got the point! ;-)
For all these people, it's far better to get their own list and to
discuss out there. Everybody here is a HanoiLUG'ers, even when lacking
some language knowledge!
Now, to leverage the separation, which is not good of course, people
knowing multiple languages shall subscribe to all the corresponding
mailing-lists, to make the bridge between them by translating from one
to the others from time to time, when it seems important to share the
information broadly.
We will see that.
Yep. No pressure here. Let's just wait and see.
If it was a “not so good” idea, the language dedicated mailing-list will
just die by themselves. But this one would never die for sure.
Cheers, J.C.
