If you mean that you're not attached via a network to other libraries, that's true of many Judaic libraries. But if you have web access, you can use shared cataloging. Certainly, it makes sense to consider the nature of your community when it comes to making cataloging decisions. Should Raskins etchings go into 296, 305 or 769? I'll opt for 769 since that would be the place to look for art in the Judaic world. And yes, it does mean you take extra effort but librarians are part of the service industry along with teachers.
