Hi Thomas,

Thanks so much for your reply.
I dearly wish I could visit you people. But given my work situation, that’s not
possible. So thank goodness for this fine forum. By the way, what does AEZ
stand for?

It is clear from what you have written that the traditional yurt has given a
good account of itself under very severe conditions. Were the traditional yurts
you are referencing made from scratch or where they built from kits? I’m
inferring that they were totally homebuilt.

And can you give us some feel for the cost of building the traditional yurts?
Was a lot of the material “scrounged”? I would love to hear more details.

The ongoing discussions about building the hexayurts for this year’s Burning
Man event suggests to me that procuring the necessary materials for that kind
of yurt isn’t as easy as we might hope. I can only guess what might happen to
supply lines in the event of major emergency. Would the situation be better or
worse for those trying to build traditional yurts? That is one of the things
I’m trying to determine.

Thanks again,
Lance
