That is essentially what I'm doing.  I beveled the door so it easily closes
without interference from the jam and is hinged so it opens outward.  I'm
using a 5/16" bolt through the door with a plexiglas handle attached to the
outside end of the bolt and another plexiglas piece on the inside that will
extend beyond the door jam, latching the door when its horizontal, and
allowing the door to open when turned vertical.
Using a bolt will allow me to disassemble it for transport and install it
after the yurt is erected.
