4/4 means a full size instrument. the others are smaller wherein 3/4 is bigger than 1/2 and so on. I do not know how exactly the size is related to this numbers. I only know 1/8 is the smallest and its not a 1:8 scale model :-)
Which makes sense for my application?
The strings for a shorter cello will more likely fit to a hurdy gurdy as the hurdy gurdies open string lenght is shorter than a cello too.
