The one exception being double basses, in which 3/4 is the normal full
size. 7/8 are sometimes made for big people and I was once told that
you'd have to be Shaquille O'Neil to play a 4/4 bass. I've never even
seen one and I'm a former bass player...

I think the 4/4 is what you should be looking at although maybe
smaller strings may be adaptable (and cheaper) but there my
knowledge runs out..
