=== News Update ===
Queen Margrethe II of Denmark has called on the country "to show our opposition to Islam", regardless of the opprobium such a stance provokes abroad. Her comments further undermined the image of Denmark as a liberal haven for those seeking a new life in northern Europe. The Danish government has already been accused of fuelling xenophobia by introducing measures which effectively closed the country to asylum seekers. But in overtly political passages from an official biography published yesterday Queen Margrethe makes comments certain to complicate her nation's relationship with Muslims.

Has defaming Prophets become Freedom of speech?
Religion is people- People's ideologies and beliefs should be given great respect. And what journalists call Freedom of _expression_ should not by any means hurt the feelings of people; from any religions or sects. The Muslim world has long been accused of lacking freedom, freedom of _expression_ or freedom of speech included. Looking at what the West today calls Freedom of Speech well find that the term has become used as a tool to insult, disrespect and degrade religions in an unprecedented way.

Norwegian Muslims want blasphemy law
Norway needs anti-blasphemy regulations to protect minorities against derisive and hateful _expression_, says lawyer Abid Q Raja. The point is not to restrict freedom of speech but to give it direction so that weak groups do not feel insulted or mocked. If we do nothing the differences within Norwegian society will increase in the future," Raja told newspaper Dagsavisen.

Danish Mohammed cartoons circulate
French newspaper France Soir reprinted on Wednesday a series of 12 Danish newspaper cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed that have sparked protests in the Muslim world and prompted Saudi Arabia to recall its ambassador from Denmark. With a mounting diplomatic storm, calls for a boycott of Danish goods and flag-burning protests, Danish security police met Muslim religious leaders in a bid to contain any domestic reaction to cartoons first run by the Jyllands-Posten paper.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain Comments on European Newspaper Cartoons
London, UK, February 1,2006: Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain strongly condemns the reprinting of caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) by leading European newspapers. The reprinting of the caricatures in the name of "freedom of speech" has once again illustrated that the "war on terror" means it is open season on Muslims and Islam. Western governments hold aloft the banner of "freedom of speech" when it comes to insulting Muslims and Islam, yet attempt to silence through fear, intimidation and draconian legislation, Muslims who criticise Western foreign policy or adhere to the Islamic injunctions on dress.

The US has become a rogue nation.
Gentle reader, if you prefer comforting lies to harsh truths, don't read this column.
The state of the union is disastrous. By its naked aggression, bullying, illegal spying on Americans, and illegal torture and detentions, the Bush administration has demonstrated American contempt for the Geneva Convention, for human life and dignity, and for the civil liberties of its own citizens. Increasingly, the US is isolated in the world, having to resort to bribery and threats to impose its diktats. No country any longer looks to America for moral leadership. The US has become a rogue nation. Continued

An Interview With William Blum, Author "Rogue State"
William Blum, "Rogue State," Was recently cited by Osama bin Laden as one Americans should read. We are faced with the fact that any number of countries would be justified in issuing a list of Americans barred from entry because of "war crimes" and "crimes against humanity".

Is it possible that Americans could be this damn stupid? Rank Ignorance Reigns
In keeping with its established role as purveyor of disinformation, Fox "News" talking head Brit Hume misreported Foxs own poll. On "Special Report" (January 26) Hume said that 51% of Americans "would now support" air strikes on Iran. What the poll found is that if diplomacy fails, 51% would support air strikes. Can we be optimistic and assume that the American public would not regard an orchestrated failure by the Bush administration as a true diplomatic failure? Alas, we cannot expect too much from a population in thrall to disinformation.

Proof That Bush Policies Have Made Global Terror Worse
Staying forever on his misleading message about how well the war on terror is going, George W. Bush decided to go with a familiar refrain in his State of the Union speech last night and declared we are in this fight to win and we are winning. White House spokesman Scott McClellan has been doing his best Gary Cooper imitation lately when he is asked about Osama bin Ladens most recent podcast saying, We do not negotiate with terrorists. We put them out of business.

Halliburton Detention Camps For Political Subversives Right in America
Discussions of federal concentration camps is no longer the rhetoric of paranoid Internet conspiracy theorists, it is mainstream news. Under the enemy combatant designation anyone at the behest of the US government, even if they are a US citizen, can be kidnapped and placed in an internment facility forever without trial.

The New Geopolitics
The Spanish-American War was an intentional device by which the United States acquired an empire.
The war against Iraq was intended to provide the United States with a dominant position in the Persian Gulf region, and to serve as a springboard for further conquests and assertion of power in the region. It was aimed as much, if not more, at China, Russia, and Europe as at Syria or Iran. It is part of a larger process of asserting dominant U.S. power in south-central Eurasia, in the very heartland of this mega-continent.

TERROR IN PALESTINE
I loathe clichés. However the old one about one mans terrorist being another mans freedom fighter has a certain truth to it. Too often the freedom fighter is perceived that way as a result of romanticism or naiveté, such as in the case of the fools pin-up Che Guevara. Sometimes the passage of time blurs perception, particularly when for reasons of what we now call ~political correctness there is an unwillingness to accept and to address the facts. Into this latter category falls the campaign of terror organised by Abraham Stern, Yitzhak Shamir, Menachem Begin, and others, in the British protectorate of Palestine.
