I thought there might be some insiders who knew how it was implemented in SFM, 
but thanks anyway. I'll look into coding something myself.

Jon, it sounds like your question is about a feature in SFM that has been 
created with Qt. I suggest going to a Qt mailing list as they will likely be 
much more helpful. Good luck with your project, hilarious trolling and complete 
derailing of topics aside, most questions I see here are specific to the source 
engine and it's working parts and not about UI frameworks. Again, best of luck.
